A rear view mirror is a MUST for anyone riding with traffic.

HELMET mirrors are NOT for everyone as they do require some getting used to. It took me at least 2-3 rides before I got used to it. I've been using one since 2003 and do not feel safe without one.

Helmet mirrors do a better job as you can still have a blind spot with the bicycle mounted mirrors - I have my helmet mirror set so I can see my shoulder and the side of my head. This gives me a clear view of traffic behind and to my right. By turning my head 30 degrees to my right, I completely "sweep" to all lanes on my left side.

I've tried this and the Blackburn helmet mirror. This one is definitely better.

MINUS
- Does not remove (the Blackburn pops off the base so you can remove it offroading, for example. Don't lose it!)

PLUS
- Shorter arm is stiffer than Blackburn (it's an I-Beam section)
- Adjustment range is better than Blackburn
- Lighter mirror... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best option going - works well with care, October 19, 2009

I have been riding with traffic for years and I have always had a helmet mounted mirror. There is no comparison in terms of visibility, flexibility, and safety. The mirror is naturally up high (at eye level!) and you can get an even larger view of what is behind you simply by moving your head. This mount is the most secure of any of them. It is susceptible to break if you drop your helmet, though most of the time it simply slips off. I have never had mine broken. I am more likely to break my helmet visor mounts!

Pros:
**** best visibility of ANY bike mirror
*** lightweight and simple
*** portable from bike to bike, etc.

Cons:
* can break off (though never in my years of experience)
* style points (believe it or not some people feel so strongly about helmet mirrors that they willingly sacrifice their safety...)

If you have not considered this option, you should invest the $10 and see (ha, ha) for yourself!

This is a great product but hard to get just right so you can see behind you. The only adjustable thing on it is where the mirror meets the pole that attaches to your helmet. There's no way to adjust the angle of the pole. The mirror not only adjusts on the pole but EASILY comes off the pole. I lost my mirror within a couple of weeks of having this product. You have to remember to remove the mirror and store it every time because if you just put your helmet down the mirror will fall off. I replaced it with the "Take a Look" (which I secured to my helmet with zip ties instead of putting it on my glasses)and am much happier with the security and adjust-ability.
