I first purchased the Giro due to all the great reviews and was so disappointed when I noticed that it was difficult to "fit" the helmet on my son. Pull the left side, right side straps, tighten this and that and it STILL didn't fit correctly. Not a good idea when your trying to fit this on a 15 month old whom does not have patience to sit there while mommy tries to adjust the helmet. Plus the head ring straps were held in by velcro. I returned that Giro helmet as I am all about safety first. The Bell Splash helmet has a "OneStep fit system" which is exactly what the product advertises and is the "perfect fit" with straps that are held by the actual helmet and NOT a head ring attached by velcro. Just tighten the chin strap, snap the buckle and your done! This is a safe helmet and also has cute blinking red lights on the back too... what a nice PLUS!! As it turns out a 5 yr old girl will be very close to 50cm head circumference. The next size up, like the Bell Trigger (labeled "youth") is specified 50-57cm.We bought a Bell Trigger on a hope. But the Trigger can just barely be made to fit a 50cm head -- main problem is that the chin strap must be adjusted to the extreme minimum where it is still possible to have the ear triangle big enough to clear the ears....mostly (our 5 yr old has a typical face -- not too round, not too long, mostly medium). Basically that next size, the Trigger, is just a little big for a typical 5-yr old girl. In summary, these two Bell helmets (Splash and Trigger) aren't perfect for that borderline 50 cm head size, the 5 yr old girl size.
